Nov 20, 2025Adelanto, CACountry of origin: China

A truck driver who entered the U.S. in 2014 and has lived in Southern California with his wife, teenage daughter, and 11-year-old U.S. citizen son for over a decade. He owns his own trucking company, has filed taxes every year, has never been arrested or cited for anything, and for nearly twelve years attended every immigration hearing. After missing one hearing on his attorney's mistaken advice, he was ordered removed in absentia, but he and his family kept reporting to ICE as directed, and he wore a GPS ankle monitor and tracking app and never missed an appointment. On November 20, 2025, despite his pending appeal being confirmed by the Board of Immigration Appeals the day before, ICE detained him at a check-in and disregarded proof of the appeal his attorney brought to the office, holding him at Adelanto ICE Processing Center. An immigration judge later found his original absence was due to ineffective assistance of counsel and reopened his case, rescinding the removal order. The federal court found his re-detention without any hearing violated due process and ordered him released within 24 hours under his prior conditions.
