Jose C.G.: Paroled man re-detained by ICE after state arrest in California

A man who was paroled into the U.S. in 2024 was later detained by immigration authorities following a state criminal arrest. A federal judge ordered the government to give him a bond hearing within 10 days or release him.

Aug 31, 2026California City, CA

A man entered the United States on August 4, 2024, after being detained by border officials and then paroled in by a CBP agent. He lived in the country for roughly two years before being arrested in August 2026 on a state criminal charge. Following that arrest, immigration authorities took him into custody on August 31, 2026, and held him at the California City Detention Facility. The government did not claim he was subject to mandatory detention under immigration law. A federal judge found that, because he had been paroled into the country and was later re-detained, due process required a hearing where the government must prove by clear and convincing evidence that he is a flight risk or danger to the community. The court ordered officials to hold that bond hearing within ten days and to release him if they failed to do so.
