Viktoriia Korol, a Ukrainian national living in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status and married to U.S. citizen Victor Korol, was detained by ICE on December 4 during her routine marriage-based green card interview at the USCIS San Diego Field Office. She and her husband say she was handcuffed and placed in ankle restraints during processing, and for the first three days of her detention she had no contact with her family or her attorney, Caroline Matthews. Viktoriia was released this week and reunited with her husband, though the couple was not given an explanation for her release and she now faces pending removal proceedings. Her attorney has filed motions to terminate those proceedings, citing legal and factual errors in the case.
