Noslem Sendra González, 41, and Michelle Aguilas de las Ruíz, 52, both Cuban men with type 2 diabetes, have been detained by ICE for about a year, passing through Alligator Alcatraz, a federal prison, and now Krome Detention Center in Miami. Their wives, Anisley Cortes and Iveth Domínguez, both U.S. citizens, say the men have each been hospitalized multiple times for complications including acute pancreatitis and dangerously high blood pressure, and that they are not receiving proper insulin or diabetes medication in detention. The wives say that on a recent Sunday, ICE officers told the men that Cuba would not take them back and Mexico refused them due to their medical conditions, and showed them a document they believe was meant to pressure them into signing for deportation to an African country.
