Luis Sandoval, a 48-year-old man from El Salvador, died at the D Ray James detention facility in Folkston, Georgia, after staff found him with a ligature around his neck around 1:46am Friday. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later. Sandoval had been arrested by ICE earlier in October and transferred to the Folkston facility on October 8. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an in-custody death investigation, and ICE said Sandoval had prior convictions but did not specify whether he had joined an ongoing hunger strike at the facility. He is the 60th person to die in ICE custody since the start of the second Trump administration.
