U.S. citizen detained by ICE for 25 days despite presenting birth certificate
Dulce Consuelo Díaz Morales, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen born in Maryland, was detained by ICE near her home on December 14 and held for 25 days across five facilities. Despite her attorneys presenting a U.S. birth certificate and other documentation proving her citizenship, ICE disputed her status and asserted she was a Mexican citizen who entered unlawfully. A federal judge issued an order blocking her deportation four days after arrest, and she was subsequently released, though deportation proceedings remain open.
