Advocates sue Trump administration over rollback of domestic violence protections for immigrants
Oct 14, 2026

A coalition of immigrant survivors and advocacy organizations, including attorneys from Public Counsel, sued the Trump administration after it rescinded sensitive-location guidelines that had limited ICE arrests at domestic violence shelters and hospitals and eliminated protections for applicants under the Violence Against Women Act. In May, a federal judge ordered the government to restore the protections while the case proceeds, though the administration has appealed. Public Counsel attorney Kathleen Rivas said clients have been 'systematically targeted' and deported quickly since the policy changes took effect.
