Pete Hegseth reportedly signed a memo authorizing DHS to temporarily borrow the Active Denial System, a military weapon that shoots an energy beam causing an intense burning sensation on the skin. The seven-month loan began in September and could be extended if DHS requests further use. The system has never been deployed before, though past administrations considered it for border crossings and protest control.
