Children left alone

Children left alone when a parent was taken

Documented stories describe parents detained during traffic stops, workplace arrests, school drop-offs, and immigration check-ins across states including Texas, California, Illinois, Florida, Connecticut, and Kansas, leaving children alone, with relatives, or with strained caregivers; some were placed in foster care, and several parents were later deported or, in one case, fatally shot by an agent. This pattern was first documented in January 2025 and has recurred monthly since, holding a roughly steady share of overall reported cases through the latest reports.

Recurring since Jan 2025.

Share of each month's well-documented stories, Jan 2025 to Oct 2026. Volume is not shown: coverage grew over the record, shares did not have to.
