HUMSI — Human Security Initiative

Human Impact Project

A living database documenting reported immigration enforcement incidents and their human impact.

U.S.-citizen children affected

Parents of U.S.-citizen children detained or deported

Documented stories describe parents arrested by ICE during everyday activities such as driving to work, green card or visa interviews, and traffic stops, in cities including Fresno, Houston, Laredo, New Haven, and Louisville, often in front of their U.S.-citizen children. Some parents were deported to countries they had never lived in, including Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, while others died in custody or were separated from infants and toddlers. This pattern was first documented in January 2025, became recurring that same month, and has remained a roughly steady share of reported cases since, peaking in April 2025.

Recurring since Jan 2025.

Share of each month's well-documented stories, Jan 2025 to Oct 2026. Volume is not shown: coverage grew over the record, shares did not have to.
